Welcome to Psychiatry for Lawyers .com

an online textbook of psychiatry, by Dr David Gill, Consultant Psychiatrist

for colleagues in the law, HR and other professions, who need further information about mental health questions .

“.. what I really wanted to know from our expert- but was afraid to ask…”

The site has grown out of Dr Gill’s UK-wide medicolegal practice; he prepares around 200 psychiatric reports a year on a range of mental health cases, including personal injury and employment matters. So far in 2009, he has appeared before the Employment Tribunal once and in Court twice.

During 2006, he spoke at the Action against Medical Accidents conference, and he ran regular workshops for Central Law Training (course approved by APIL) in 2006 and 2008.

On 15/9/08, by kind invitation of barristers Daniel Barnett and Tim Kevan, David took part in an online seminar on Proving and Disproving Psychiatric Injuries. A fuller version of his talk has now appeared in the Medico-Legal Journal (2008) 78, 143-55..

The site is work in progress. If your question of interest is not covered yet, please let me know and it will be included as soon as possible. Any other comments will be appreciated also. Thanks.

The text partly derives from Outline of Psychiatry, a textbook originated by Dr Jenny Barroclough, later prepared jointly, and the most recent edition by Dr Gill.
